Term 1 Weeks 7 to 8

An Invitation to our Stage 1 Infants Assembly
The children in Stage 1- Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 are very excited to welcome you to Danebank on Wednesday 29th March at 2pm in the Danebank PAC. This will be our first Infants Assembly this year. We will be showcasing some of the interesting facts we have discovered in our learning this term. We all look forward to performing our item for you. We hope you can make it! All parents, family and friends are welcome to attend. See you there!

Richmond House fundraiser for Bush Church Aid Bush - Active wear Day
We raised money for Bush Church Aid by having a ‘Active wear’ day last week. Students creatively dressed up in their colourful active wear to raise funds for Richmond House’s charity. Thank you for your donations as this money raised goes directly to BCA. BCA is facing continued requests for help across the country due to social changes, drought bushfires and floods as well as spreading the Christian message across remote country areas. Well Done Danebank!

Harmony Day
We celebrated the rich diversity of cultures at Danebank on Harmony Day. Students participated in a short assembly to discover what it means to be an Australian. We then had a parade of stunning fashions from various countries. Students looked beautiful in their clothing from various cultures. Girls enjoyed participating in a variety of activities to celebrate Harmon Day. Stage 1 activities included ICT, Dance, Visual Arts, Drama and Literacy. A great day of cultural celebration was enjoyed by all.

Maths
This week we began our focus on addition and subtraction. We have been sharing strategies we might use, such as the ‘split’ and ‘compensation’ strategies, as well as growing our knowledge of the metalanguage associated with these concepts, e.g. ‘plus’, ‘add’, ‘more than’, ‘less than’, ‘sum’, ‘difference’. We are encouraging students to make real life connections with Mathematics.

Kindness Bucket Fillers
During our Health lessons, we have been learning about the importance of showing respect and good manners in order to make good friends and keep good friends. It has been fantastic to see lots of Bucket Fillers around the Year 1 classrooms with lots of kind words being used to build each other! This week our buckets are reminding us to do kind acts and be helpful to someone. Hopefully, at home your daughter will offer assistance and help with a task, and may fill up your bucket! Thank you for your ongoing support!

Premiers Reading Challenge
Year 1 students are into the swing of reading with the Premiers Reading Challenge. Mrs Jamieson (Librarian) distributed the girls’ usernames and passwords as well as the Reading Log in Library lessons. Don’t forget to look for books on the website: www.premiersreadingchallenge.nsw.edu.au. PRC finishes at the end of August. Mrs Jamieson has the lists of books on display in the library. Danebank girls will have no trouble meeting the requirements of the challenge. Obviously, we don’t have all the books on the lists, but we do have a good number of them.
It gives the children such satisfaction to achieve this goal, and it is a real thrill for them when they are presented with their certificates.

Autumn Fair and Open Day
We look forward to seeing you all at our Danebank Autumn Fair and Open Day on Saturday 13th May. The Open Day for Classroom displays is from 10:30am to 3pm. There will be entertainment on the outdoor stage, classroom displays and tours led by students. The Autumn Fair is from 9am to 4pm. Stalls include Cakes, Craft and Gifts Stalls, Books, Farmers Market, International Food outlets, Children’s activities, Rides, Face Painting, Devonshire Tea and Silent auction.
Thank you to all the parents who have sent their donations and also to parents who are busily working behind the scenes to organise the day. Year 1 are donating Stationery items to the Silent Auction hampers.
Come support the Year 1 BBQ stall and view your child’s classroom and see the dance troupe, choir and band performances. Thank you to our Year 1 BBQ Stall Convenors Mrs Meri Ninic and Mrs Vanessa Mansour for the great work they are doing behind the scenes in setting up the Year 1 stall.
This day is one of the compulsory school days that students are required to attend so we look forward to seeing you all there to experience the great day.

Raincoats
After a spate of hot weather to start the term we now find ourselves in the middle of some wet days. Can you please make sure that your daughter has a raincoat in her bag at all times. We have had some enquiries about raincoats for Junior School students. The only requirement is that the raincoat is yellow. Please note that the grey/pink anorak/raincoat, which is part of the school uniform, is for Senior students only.
Senior School Wingara Car Park
Some parents and carers are walking through the Wingara car park to Park Rd and have also parked in the car park to pick up students. Parents are not permitted to use this area for access. Signage will be displayed to indicate this as a non-access point. Please note this is for the safety of all children and parents.
